7 Ways To Find A Job In The US If You Live In Brazil

4. Get a Social Security Card

All non-US residents should have a Social Security Number (SSN).  You need a SSN to open a bank account, get a driver’s license, and apply for a job and other benefits. It is not a personal identification number and should not be used on doctor’s forms, etc.

According to the Social Security website, you don’t need one, but you should probably have one. Apply on paper (Form DS-230) or online (Form DS-260) at the same time you apply for your visa.
